Dataset Identity

Equipment & Acquisition

The owner identifies the weather station as a Sainlogic SA9. The model is owner-provided equipment metadata and is not independently verified from system records. Installation date, calibration history, and an external comparison method have not been documented.

The logger requests the Weather Underground api.weather.com current-observation endpoint nominally every five minutes. Each row is a five-minute observation snapshot — not a computed five-minute aggregate. Availability depends on station uploads, Weather Underground, DNS/network access, the local logger, and its launcher.

The exact current launcher remains unidentified, so this release makes no claim of guaranteed continuous operation, unattended 24/7 reliability, or automatic restart after reboot. Collection gaps and source/API outages are documented in the quality reports.

Time & Measurements

UTC is the primary chronology. Eastern local timestamps retain their UTC offset. Sampling timestamps (sampled_at_*) describe logger attempts; observation timestamps (observation_at_*) describe the time reported by the source API. Normalized units and field definitions are listed in DATA_DICTIONARY.csv.

Source & Public Derivatives

Daily raw JSONL files remain the authoritative internal source. They contain location metadata and are excluded from public release version 0.1. Public daily and monthly CSV files are normalized derivatives that retain every attempted interval, original quality fields, and additional publication-quality fields.

Quality Treatment

No interpolation, deletion, or substitution is applied to missing or suspect measurements. Original quality flags remain unchanged. API QC values 0 and -1 are flagged as suspect pending confirmation of their exact semantics; they are not automatically declared invalid.

Negative observation age, repeated observation timestamps, gaps over 7.5 minutes, missing measurements, and stale/delayed records receive separate derivative flags. The pressure interval from 2026-08-19T13:34:00Z through 2026-08-26T11:28:59Z remains present and is marked suspect_pressure. Public charts or summaries must not silently treat these values as trustworthy measurements.
